《Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3》导演 James Gunn 确认本片将会是三部曲最终章，而这也意味著未来大家或将无法再看见 Guardians of the Galaxy 的成员们出现在 MCU 之中。
《Guardians of the Galaxy》（星际异攻队/银河护卫队/银河守护队）于 2014 年首次登场在 MCU，以星爵 Star-Lord（Chris Pratt 饰）、 Gamora（Zoe Saldana 饰）、Drax the Destroyer（Dave Bautista 饰）、Rocket Racoon（ Bradley Cooper 饰）与 Groot（Vin Diesel 饰）等五人为首的团队。续集则在 2017 年上映，并在《Avengers: Infinity War》与 《Avengers: Endgame》中扮演重要的角色。
如今，第三集在经历千回路转之后仍由 James Gunn 回归执导，导演近期在 Deadline 的 Podcast 节目 Hero Nation 中表示：「这将会是我们的最终章，也会是人们最后一次看到 Guardians of the Galaxy 这支团队。本片的规模相当龐大且十分黑暗，或许会与大众想像的有所不同。我忠于每个角色与故事，给予大家应有的故事结尾，这有点可怕，但我会尽我所能。」
“It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be.
I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
