前 Google 数据科学家透过研究 Wikipedia 揭示成功的关键

若阁下并不是臭名远播，那么在维基百科（Wikipedia）榜上有名或许是一份骄傲。Seth Stephens-Davidowitz 曾经是 Google 数据科学家，最近他在其新书《Everybody Lies: Big Data, New Data, and What the Internet Can Tell Us About Who We Really Are.》中，便介绍如何透过互联网搜索获得人们最内心的想法和欲望的研究。而为了得出这些数据，Stephens-Davidowitz 便分析了整个维基百科，将所有拥有个人维基百科页面的人士一一分析，包括每个人的出生地方，出生日期，职业和性别。最后得出的分析是约有 30％ 的人通过艺术和娱乐获得成功，29％ 通过运动，9％ 来自政治，3％ 通过科学或学术。

The greater the percentage of foreign-born residents in an area, the higher the proportion of children born there who go on to notable success,” Stephens-Davidowitz wrote. The effect was so great, among two equal college towns, both of a decent size, “the one with more immigrants will produce more prominent Americans.

另外地理学亦是其中一个重要因素，例如在加利福尼亚州出生的总人口中，1,209 人中有一个在维基百科页面里头。而且若出生地点是在大学附近的，都有一定的作用引发成功。虽然常言「成功需苦干」，但是除了努力之外，看来还是需要一些机缘际遇，否则只是徒劳无功。
